YU Yuphoria
YU Yuphoria
Micromax introduced its sub-brand YU in January 2015, with the release of its first smartphone under the brandname YU – The YU Yureka. Launched with an aim of providing great at lower prices to make the device one of the most valuable devices for money. The Yureka did it to a good extent, providing a 4G phone with great specs under 10K. Now, YU has come up with an entry-level device with people looking for the smartphone switch and have even low budget – The Yuphoria. Simply putting, the Yuphoria is the cheaper version of its predecessor. Looking at the price tag, which is only INR 6,999, the Yuphoria seems to be designed for users just looking for a switch from their feature phones and also for people having budgets as low as the price.
The Yuphoria skips some, while lowers some specs so as to make up for the price. The Second album of the Micromax and Cyanogen collaboration comes at 2000 less than the Yureka, which makes its appeal even more interesting. The YU brand name ensures the tweakable Cyanogen Mod UI. Despite the dirt price, the Yuphoria looks very impressive on papers. Don’t believe us? Have a look yourself –

The Ultimate review –
With the Chinese companies growing in the market, Indian companies like Micromax are facing trouble flooding their devices in the smartphone market. However, with the Yureka doing well in the market, things look going the right way for YU. But only if the successor is not a flop.
The YU Yuphoria was not an expected device by YU. Certainly, most of us expect a higher-priced smartphone in the form of a successor and not something like Yuphoria which comes at a price even lower than that of Yureka. Priced at INR 6,999, the Yuphoria is a market forced product with the 7K 4G smartphones trending and prevailing in the market.
Compared to Yureka, the Yuphoria lacks in –
-
Screen size – From 5.5-inch Yureka to 5.0-inch.
-
Chipset – Qualcomm snapdragon 615 to snapdragon 410
-
CPU – Half the cores
-
GPU – Adreno 405 replaced by Adreno 306.
-
Rear Camera – 13 MP to a lower-resolution 8 MP
-
Fast charging option introduced
-
Battery Power
-
Compass sensor
Certainly, 2000 more will get you a better deal.
However, the Yuphoria is not as appealing as it is on paper. The Metal built is good, but lacks quality and details. Some touchscreen issues, average camera performance, reduced battery life, heating issues and not-so-appealing headphone audio quality are all that makes its after-use appeal inferior to the on paper appeal.
The issues are just too much for us to recommend you the Yuphoria, especially with devices like Xiaomi Redmi 2 competing at the same price range. But that doesn’t throw the Yuphoria out of the competition. If the Camera doesn't bother you much (which is rare), most of the issues can be fixed by relevant software updates which make the Yuphoria a decent device. Priority is all that matters. We would recommend a good market research about other devices at the same price tag. Maybe you will find a more suitable option because there are few of them in the market for sure.
Certainly, with the Yuphoria, you might not be able to play god but it is surely not a device to hide in your pockets!
